Commonly Spoofed Country Codes (and What to Watch Out For)

Scam calls using international numbers are on the rise, and many rely on a technique called spoofing—where the caller fakes the caller ID to make it look like it’s coming from a different number. These calls often trick people into calling back, only to get hit with high international charges or fall into a scam trap.

🚩 Watch out for these commonly spoofed country codes:

  • +222 – Mauritania

  • +223 – Mali

  • +232 – Sierra Leone

  • +234 – Nigeria

  • +252 – Somalia

  • +264 – Namibia

  • +265 – Malawi

  • +375 – Belarus

  • +420 – Czech Republic (used in some SMS phishing scams)

  • +670 – East Timor

  • +84 – Vietnam

  • +63 – Philippines

🔒 Quick tip: Never call back numbers from unfamiliar international codes unless you’re absolutely expecting a call from someone abroad.
